The tight wad of cotton around the top gives the nicest sound out of a Gong. I often see gongs supplied with a stick. This will give a tinny sound. The depth and overtone symphony of various overtones  makes the gong the loveliest musical instrument when not constrained to the ill timed melodies that composers force gongs into. Like many of the products in our shop. They will just be so against the organised way of love, love, and music.
