Maybe good for getting a taste of your gravy- don't scoop too much up- for saltiness etc. Mum used to make me her taster, however, I think she used the wok chan.
You can scoop hearty soups up, or gravy filled curries etc and some even use it as their wok stirrer, for I have seen them scoop up soy sauce, hot stock, salt or sugar with it to add and then continue to stir fry.
